Planning the Future

Planning the Future

Over the past several years, the numbers of WWII veterans has decreased significantly. Their numbers attending reunions has dwindled, so it is not unusual for fewer than a dozen wartime veterans to attend. Twenty years ago, between 150-200 vets would come and bring their wives.

Responsibility for the survival of the Regimental Association is increasingly that of the members of the peacetime Regiment. That is the Reserve Regiment to which you belonged. The current Association Executive Committee has 15 members; only two of them are wartime vets.

Responsibility for survival of the Association means we must successfully recruit and maintain enough members from the post-war West Novas to continue to offer reunions and to offer support to the Regiment whenever possible. Many soldiers served their country in the West Novas, training and preparing for war, as well as serving on UN and NATO missions. These are the men and women who will fill the ranks of the Regimental Association and keep the spirit and memory of the Regiment and the deeds of their predecessors alive.

We hope to be experiencing significant growth in the membership of the Association. Present membership is younger than it has been in a long time, and what we do has to be decided by those members. This is why it is so important that you attend the Annual General Meeting on 15 Sep. We need to know the direction in which the new membership wishes to go. The only way you can have a voice in the future of the organization is to be there and hear the plan or help to build it.

If you are not currently a member of the Association, you can join by completing the Membership Application on the right side of this page. You can also find an electronic copy of the Application Form here which you can print off, complete, and mail to WNSRRA, Box 6, Paradise, NS, B0S 1P0.

Please do this as soon as possible.
